Fall at Ganyard Hill Farm

October is my very favorite month and I'm finding that all of the harvest activities I've always loved are so much more fun with Miles by my side -or in most cases- running away from me.

Have you every heard of corn crib? I hadn't until today. Its pretty much a huge sandbox, only instead of sand it's dried corn kernels. Pretty awesome!

Road Kill

Back in October I was driving down the road and saw a dresser on the curb. My thought process went something like, "Why do people just throw their junk on the side of the road and expect someone to pick it up? No one wants your craaa....I want that dresser!"

So I flipped a U and loaded it in the car. It was solid wood and quite heavy, so I'm sure I made a scene on the shoulder of the road, struggling to lift it in the back of my car by myself. My neighbors were all out in the cul-de-sac having a Halloween party when I pulled up - all Beverly Hillbilly style with it hanging half way out of my car. Awesome.

Not sure how long it had been outside, but it was in pretty rough shape. A can of Lysol, some Fabreeze, sanding, primer, paint, and new hardware, and I think it turned out to be a pretty nice piece of furniture: especially for being road kill!

Get Rich Quick

People, spring break is less than two weeks away and I ain't got no money! If any of you know of any get-rich-quick-work-from-home-get-paid-in-cash jobs I can do. Please do let me know. I told Landon I am going to sell things on Craigslist. He is deathly afraid he is going to come home from work and our house will be empty.

The first thing I sold was a bookshelf that really wasn't doing much for me. $45. Looks like we have dinner and movie so far. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

My hero, The Pneumatic Addict, does some amazing woodworking and refurbishing and I'm trying to learn her ways. It'll never get me rich, and its really slow work, but it's very fun and rewarding. My first project was to fix up this thrift store TV console... but in the end, I couldn't part with it.

Family Photos

I asked my oh so very talented friend Hayley Oakes to snap a Christmas card picture for us this year. Well, I ended up getting way more than I bargained for, and I still never managed to send out cards! If I did send one out, it would've included the picture below:)

I also think we have a pretty good chance of making it on one of those 'awkward family photos' posts with this one. Sometimes ya gotta do, whatcha gotta do.

43 Days of Vacation

Our family has just returned home from 43 days of vacation! How is this possible? We went home for Thanksgiving and decided Landon could just "study for his 2nd board exam" between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Plus, he is between his MD and beginning his PhD coursework and research, so there was a bit of extra flexibility. Here is a summary of our travels. 

Stopped into Whits house in Salem, UT. Found out she is having another girl!

Up to Lewiston, UT for Thanksgiving at Grandma&pa Hansen's.

Up to Idaho for Brie and Chad's wedding. Gorgeous.

Miles was blessed by his daddy in Rupert, ID. 

Then we headed down to AZ to defrost! We had a blast going to the suns game, riding horses, golfing, and seeing friends.

Back up to the cabin in Heber for an early Christmas with my family! 

My little brother is the master snowman maker.

Miles first Christmas morning in Idaho was so much fun! 

After Christmas we jumped on a plane to Mexico. At this point, Miles had become pretty comfortable with flying :)

Due to bad weather in Detroit, we spent a little extra time in Utah before heading home. Yay!

We feel so blessed to have amazing family and friends and to have seen so many over the holidays.

Now Landon is back to the lab, I'm doing my housewife thing, and Miles is asleep.
